This is my first foray into French pastries, as well as the product most connected to my background as an academic. These fresh, hand-made seashell-shaped, bite-sized cakes are flavored with vanilla and lemon zest. They feature in Marcel Proust’s “In Search of Lost Time,” where the narrator enjoys a madeleine dipped in tea and the sensation triggers a flood of childhood memories (I will be uploading a video going into more detail about this soon!) Madeleines are best enjoyed warm soon after baking, enjoyed with a cup of coffee or tea (like Proust!) $2.50 apiece, $10 for a half dozen, $20 for a dozen.
